Haku by Nicole
Hakus By Nicole, a 3rd generation Hawaii girl, will be joining us from her island home of Maui to share in her gift of haku lei po`o (making head lei). The art of lei making was a pastime she enjoyed with her grandmother since childhood. She uses a contemporary method of lei making for her premium custom haku orders, teaches classes, and holds workshops to pass the art form along.
Nicole is honored to be joining you warriors on International Women’s Day to craft beautiful lei po`o together for you to wear for your photo session later that evening down at Hapuna Beach.
Benjamin is the founder of Malama Mushrooms, a medicinal mushroom business & education project rooted on the Big Island. Malama is the Hawaiian word for protect, preserve, & nurture, and this serves as the standard for all the work that they do. The project began in 2015 when Benjamin began growing gourmet & medicinal mushrooms in a lava tube in Kona. Since then, Malama has a line of medicinal mushroom products from Cacao Mixes to tinctures. Why mushrooms? Fungi like reishi, chaga, maitake, turkey tail have been studied & shown to fight cancer, and some other species have been shown to break down pollutants in our eco-system. Malama Mushrooms’ mission is to protect, preserve, & nurture the earth and those that temporarily occupy it by utilizing the fungi queendom.
